1Short Title, Commencement and Extent ↗
Names the Code, fixes its commencement (1 January 1909) and its territorial extent.
2Definitions ↗
Defines the core terms — decree, judgment, order, decree-holder, mesne profits, legal representative.
3Subordination of Courts
Sets the hierarchy — the District Court is subordinate to the High Court, and lower courts to the District Court.
4Savings
Saves special and local laws and special jurisdictions from being overridden by the Code.
5Application of the Code to Revenue Courts
Extends the Code to Revenue Courts, where their own procedure is silent, as the State Government directs.
6Pecuniary Jurisdiction
Bars a court from trying a suit whose value exceeds its pecuniary (monetary) limit.
7Provincial Small Cause Courts
Excludes certain provisions of the Code from Courts of Small Causes outside the presidency-towns.
8Presidency Small Cause Courts
Limits the Code’s application to the Presidency Courts of Small Causes.
